The group Gasteiz Antiarrazista has organized a concentration for Thursday afternoon under the slogan 'Stop Racism! Solidarity with the residents of URSSA and EGA'. On Sunday, called by the Salburua Welcome Network, they will denounce the worsening situation of 50 asylum seekers who have been living in front of the National Police station for months.
On Wednesday, approximately 70 agents from the Ertzaintza, the Local Police, and the National Police participated in an operation to search the URSSA and EGA factories and identify the homeless people residing there. During the operation, around 120 individuals were identified, and some were given appointments to report to the Immigration Office.
Gasteiz Antiarrazista has denounced that 'the people living in URSSA and EGA have suffered a racist attack, once again. With the help of the police and the media, the Gasteiz City Council has violently persecuted the hundreds of people living there.' The mobilization will take place in the Plaza Nueva at 7:30 PM.
Dozens of people experiencing homelessness live in the URSSA and EGA factories. In recent weeks, there have been several incidents and complaints in the area, including accusations by Errekaleor of attacks on residents and allegations of Ertzaintza involvement. Furthermore, some media outlets and political representatives have linked the residents to robberies or conflicts.
Meanwhile, for months, dozens of citizens from Mali have been living in front of the National Police station seeking asylum. The Salburua Welcome Network has warned that starting Sunday, 50 asylum seekers will be left 'on the street' as resources are running out. Under the slogan 'Abandoned by institutions. Solution now!', they have called for a mobilization at the roundabout of 8th of March Avenue.
