Last Saturday, the XI Ibai Morante Memorial took place in Arantzazu (Araba). The event featured a rapid chess tournament for teams and a festival for young players, with successful organization led by Eider Velasco's team.
In the fast-paced team race, Martintxoren Etxea emerged as the winner, beating Hondarribia-Marlaxka by a single point and Mikel Gurea by two. The Anaitasuna Kakute team secured 11th place out of 18 participating teams, with members including Juan Carlos Valor, Jose Joaquin Larrañaga, and Alejandro Alzas.
In the afternoon, it was the turn of the young participants. Luken Pascual (7th with 4.5 points) and Bera Pascual (22nd with 3 points) thoroughly enjoyed the competition, making it a great day.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Sustapena 2026 festival, scheduled for June 14th, are well underway, with the number of registered participants already reaching one-third of the tournament's capacity.
Furthermore, the Anaitasuna Kakute club has announced that the XLIV Azkoitia Hiria Championship will be held on Sunday, June 28th, at the Kontzejupe fronton. Twenty teams, each composed of three players, will compete starting at 10:00 AM. Azkoitia will field several teams, allowing all players to enjoy the Club Day and showcase their sport to the community—a sport without age, gender, or condition barriers, which is growing globally with impressive participation figures.
