On July 18th, Frías Castle will be the venue for the "Cata en las Alturas" event, blending wine, gastronomy, music, and historical heritage.

On July 18th, the imposing Frías Castle will host the first edition of “Cata en las Alturas”. This tourist and cultural initiative aims to merge wine, gastronomy, music, and historical heritage in an unparalleled setting, ideal for a summer getaway.
The representation from Álava will shine with the participation of Artomaña Txakolina, a winery from the Arabako Txakolina designation of origin located in the municipality of Amurrio. Attendees can taste the uniqueness of this Alavese txakoli, characterized by its freshness and territorial roots. The connection with the province will be further enhanced by the presence of Bodegas Manuel Quintano, honoring the notable cleric and winemaker born in Labastida.
The guided tasting, starting at 20:30, will allow attendees a unique journey through different territories, styles, and expressions of wine. It will also feature participation from other prominent wineries such as Bodegas Fortius (D.O. Navarra), Bodegas Buezo (D.O. Arlanza), and Bodegas Antonio Serrano (D.O. Ribera del Duero).
One of the most special moments will be the intervention of researcher José Luis Lejonagoitia, who will present his work "Origen del chacolí de Frías". In this book, the author recovers the wine-making history of the Burgos municipality and highlights a production tradition closely linked to the territory.
The culinary proposal will match the heritage setting, thanks to chef Saúl Barquilla, recognized as one of the top 100 young gastronomy talents by the prestigious Basque Culinary Center. Barquilla will offer a spectacular live show cooking starting at 20:40, preparing five proximity and seasonal tapas designed to harmonize with each of the five participating wines.
The day will begin at 19:30 with a guided tour of the historic center of Frías, cataloged as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, allowing attendees to discover its monumental richness before entering the fortress. As night falls, careful architectural lighting and live music will complete the creation of a magical and unforgettable atmosphere high in the castle.
