The Provincial Council of Álava has launched a new edition of its participatory budgets, enabling citizens to submit proposals for their municipalities and decide how a portion of the provincial budget is invested.

This initiative empowers the residents of Álava to directly engage in the design and implementation of public policies. The deadline for submitting proposals is May 8, 2026, followed by a popular vote scheduled from June 22 to July 22.
The call for proposals was published today in the BOTHA via Foral Order 25/2026. This document outlines the timeline, forms, and procedures for submitting proposals and voting on projects. The program, first introduced in 2022, has since provided a platform for Álava's citizens to communicate their needs and priorities.
Furthermore, the Foral Government Council has approved a new practical guide for the participatory model, incorporating minor improvements to streamline procedures and simplify participation. Proposals can be submitted physically or electronically using the designated forms. All relevant information will be available on the Open Government Portal of the Provincial Council of Álava.

Citizens can convey their needs and priorities, ensuring that projects with significant social backing can be integrated into the Deputation's annual budget.

The participation timeline includes proposal submission until May 8, 2026; verification and filtering from May 9 to 19; technical and economic evaluation from May 20 to June 12; publication of selectable projects on June 15; popular voting from June 22 to July 22; and final results on September 22. The feedback and evaluation phase will run from September 23, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
