This aid will be directed to alleviate the severe situation in the territory of Uvira, in the province of South Kivu, caused by violent clashes between Congolese armed forces and M23/AFC rebels, supported by Rwanda. These conflicts have generated severe insecurity and the forced displacement of the population in localities such as Kabimba, Katongo, and Kigongo.

The intervention will cover basic needs through the distribution of food —corn flour, oil, salt, legumes, sugar, and powdered milk— as well as essential household items, clothing, and hygiene products. Special attention will also be given to women, particularly pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, through the delivery of specific 'kits' tailored to their needs.

The aid will be channeled through the Asociación Africanista Manuel Iradier, the requesting entity, and will be executed on the ground by the local organization Pax Christi Uvira. The latter has extensive experience in assisting populations affected by the long-standing conflict in the area and has previously acted in humanitarian emergencies with the collaboration of the Alava Emergency Fund.

The conflict, set within a prolonged humanitarian crisis in the region, has intensified in recent months, leading to systematic looting of goods, destruction of livelihoods, and the displacement of thousands of people. During attacks, civilians have been forced to abandon their homes, leaving them in a state of extreme vulnerability.

The conflict with M23 is exacerbating a chronic humanitarian crisis in eastern DRC, devastated by three decades of violence. The humanitarian situation in the region continues to deteriorate despite recently signed peace agreements, as armed confrontations persist and continue to generate mass displacements and severe risks for the civilian population.

Insecurity and lack of resources hinder access to basic services and worsen the living conditions of affected individuals, especially in the more isolated rural areas.
