The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council limited the public use of MugiBIKE this Thursday, reserving 50 of the 80 bicycles from the public system for an activity organized as part of the 'Connecting Álava by Bike' day, promoted by RedBici in collaboration with the City Council and the Provincial Council of Álava.

This decision significantly reduced the availability of a service intended for daily citizen use, precisely on a day focused on promoting cycling mobility. The reserved bikes were used for a practical outing to explore the new connection to the Álava Technology Park.
Municipal sources explained to GasteizBerri that the activity was designed to allow visitors to experience how MugiBIKE works in practice and to showcase Vitoria-Gasteiz's cycling mobility model without relying on private companies. According to this account, 50 of the 80 available bicycles were reserved.
The timing is striking because the event served to advocate for the bicycle as a daily means of transport and to highlight public tools like MugiBIKE. However, this demonstration of the local model resulted in an effective restriction of public access to the service for several hours.
During the gathering, the Councillor for Public Space and Mobility, Beatriz Artolazabal, emphasized the city's cycling network, the secure parking facilities VG Biziz, and the public electric bicycle rental system. A key focus of the day was the cycling connection between Vitoria-Gasteiz, Gamarra, and the Technology Park.
