Vitoria-Gasteiz is hosting the VIII Meeting of the Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI) Network Managers, a leading national event that brings together professionals, institutional leaders, and experts from the tourism sector to share knowledge, best practices, and advance the intelligent transformation of destinations.
The congress, taking place from June 1st to 3rd in the capital of Álava, positions Euskadi and Vitoria-Gasteiz as a meeting point for the DTI model, fostering the exchange of experiences in sustainability, innovation, and tourism governance.
The opening ceremony was attended by prominent authorities in the tourism field, including the Vice-Minister of Tourism and Commerce of the Basque Government, Jakes Aguirrezabal, who highlighted Euskadi's commitment to a smarter, more sustainable, and competitive tourism model.
The institutional opening also brought together representatives from SEGITTUR, the General State Administration, the Provincial Council of Álava, and the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, demonstrating inter-institutional collaboration to advance the development of the DTI model.
Within the framework of the meeting, Daniel Solana, General Director of Basquetour, participated in the first panel discussion of the afternoon, focusing on the sustainability approach from an integral perspective.
Under the title “Sustainability is not just environmental,” this session addressed the need to understand tourism sustainability transversally, incorporating social, economic, and governance dimensions as keys for the future of destinations.
Over three days, the meeting will include presentations, debate panels, and participatory dynamics aimed at analyzing current tourism challenges and identifying innovative solutions to strengthen destination competitiveness.
With this new edition, the Meeting of DTI Network Managers consolidates its role as a strategic forum to promote smarter, more sustainable tourism aligned with the needs of the territory and its citizens.
