The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council will re-tender the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Avenida de los Huetos and Bekolarra street, next to the Mercedes-Benz factory.

The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council will re-tender the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Avenida de los Huetos and Bekolarra street, next to the Mercedes-Benz factory. The Local Government Board will approve the new contracting file this Friday, after the previous procedure was declared void. The project has a budget of 695,679.24 euros and an estimated execution period of five months.
The intervention's main objective is to improve mobility and road safety in one of the city's main industrial areas, particularly affected by heavy vehicle traffic. The new roundabout will facilitate truck entry and exit from Mercedes-Benz and will allow for the reorganization of traffic flows, preventing unnecessary journeys towards the city center and reducing congestion in nearby points such as Las Arenas street and the intersection of Urartea, Bremen, Huetos, and Antonio Machado streets.
The roundabout will have a diameter of 35 meters and will feature two traffic lanes. Two entry and exit lanes will be provided for each direction of Avenida de los Huetos, and one for Bekolarra street. The project also includes the renovation of sidewalks, the construction of two pedestrian crossings (one elevated and signalized), and the improvement of the existing cycle lane's safety through traffic separation elements. Additionally, the lighting and green areas in the vicinity will be renewed.
The action is part of the Mobility Plan for Industrial Estates and is framed within the collaboration agreement signed between the City Council and Mercedes-Benz to improve access to the factory. The agreement also includes the construction of another roundabout on Las Arenas street.

"We are talking about a necessary intervention in an area with very intense industrial activity. We want to facilitate the movement of heavy vehicles, reduce current traffic problems, and improve the safety of all people using these roads. Our goal is to get this project underway as soon as possible."
