The TAO Dance Theater company will present its works 'Numerical numbers: 13' and '14' as part of the 51st Vitoria-Gasteiz International Theater Festival. The event is scheduled for tomorrow, October 10th, at 7:30 PM in the Félix Petite theater.
Founded in 2008 by Tao Ye, Duan Ni, and Wang Hao, the company revolutionized contemporary dance in China with its circular movement system technique, centered on the spine. Choreographer Tao Ye created the 'Numerical numbers' series based on this technique, emphasizing minimalism to enhance body movement.
In Vitoria-Gasteiz, these two performances will dialogue directly on stage, forming a continuous and interconnected experience, according to Sonia Díaz de Corcuera, Councilor for Culture and Education.
'13' revolves around the Trinity, exploring three forms of bodily interaction: solo dance, duet, and group dance. The piece constructs a complex physical universe, manifesting collisions, compressions, fusions, falls, and tensions at slow, medium, and fast rhythms, using rigorous and open concepts.
Meanwhile, '14' delves into rhythm and change, breaking from the usual circular repetition method to focus on exploring the space-time between movement and stillness.
Both pieces are choreographed by TAO Ye. The dance ensemble includes HUANG Qiqi, YAN Yulin, XU Fujin, TONG Yusheng, LI Siyu, LIU Yiren, SUN Leirui, WU Zhenkai, LI Jiayu, CHENG Leting, WAN Lu, and LU Wenchao. For the music, '13' features Xiao He as composer, while TAO Ye also authored the sound concept for '14'.
