ASAMMA and Fundación Vital, in collaboration with the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, have launched the 7th Solidarity Race against Breast and Gynecological Cancer, scheduled for October 18th. The event aims to raise awareness about these diseases and channel participation into direct support for research.
Marisol Díaz de Cerio, president of ASAMMA, emphasized that the race is not about times or positions, but about "accompanying, making visible a reality that affects many families, and moving forward together." She added, "Each bib transforms the solidarity of Vitoria-Gasteiz into more research and a better future."
Arantxa Ibáñez de Opacua, director of Fundación Vital, highlighted the importance of such events in giving visibility to both affected individuals and the associations that support them year-round, stressing the need for quality cancer research funding.
Ana López de Uralde, Councilor for Sport, Health, and Development Cooperation, encouraged participation, calling it a "celebration for all women who have experienced or are experiencing the illness," and noted sport's role in fostering "unity and a sense of community."
The five-kilometer route will start at 10:30 AM from the paseo de Cervantes. The race is inclusive, allowing participants to run or walk, individually or with family and friends, aiming to gather thousands of supporters.
Registration costs 10 euros, with all proceeds going directly to GEICAM (Spanish Breast Cancer Research Group), which promotes independent clinical, epidemiological, and translational research.
Inscriptions can be made online via the ASAMMA website or in person at the association's headquarters (calle Vicente Abreu, 7). Bib collection will take place on Saturday, October 17th, at El Corte Inglés.
