The Environmental Studies Center (CEA) has launched a new campaign to encourage the nearly 40,000 workers who commute to Vitoria-Gasteiz's industrial parks to opt for cycling. The 'Biciempresa 2026' challenge will take place throughout October and November, aiming to encourage employees and companies in these and other industrial areas to try changing their mode of transport.
Borja Rodríguez, the Councillor for the Environment, stated, "Leveraging the improvements in cycling connections to Jundiz and the Technology Park, we are launching the ‘Biciempresa 2026’ Challenge. We aim to encourage staff and companies in these and other industrial areas of Vitoria-Gasteiz to try switching their transport mode and use bicycles to get to work." He added that participating in this challenge "not only reinforces the environmental commitment of both parties but also facilitates the fulfillment of the city's new goals in mobility and climate action."
The benefits for participants are numerous: they incorporate daily exercise, improve their quality of life, reduce their carbon footprint, contribute to a Vitoria-Gasteiz with less smoke and noise, and travel efficiently, avoiding traffic jams and saving on fuel, parking, and other transport-related expenses.
Furthermore, the CEA will organize a raffle among participants who accumulate at least 80 kilometers during the two-month campaign. The first prize will be an electric bicycle valued at 2,400 euros, and two €100 prepaid cards and eight €50 cards, valid for local commerce purchases, will also be raffled.
The contest will run from October 1 to November 30, 2026. To track each participant's progress, the 'Ciclogreen' app will be used to record accumulated kilometers.
Promoting cycling for commutes to the Basque capital's industrial parks is one of the key objectives outlined in the sustainable mobility strategy within the new Vitoria-Gasteiz 2026-2030 Sustainable Mobility and Public Space Plan.
