The Haurreskola in Pobes, located in the Erriberabeitia area, will reopen its doors next September. The center will thus resume an activity that had been inactive since 2017. This reopening will ease the situation for several families in Ribera Alta, who until now had to take their children to the Haurreskola-Urdiña Isar in Nanclares de la Oca.
The reactivation of the service has been made possible by meeting the minimum requirement of three students for the upcoming academic year, the exact number needed to get the center operational. The mayor of Pobes, Javier Gallego Rodríguez, highlighted the significance of this news for a small municipality, stating that recovering such a service represents a direct improvement for families and a commitment to keeping villages alive.
The reopening of the haurreskola will prevent young children from having to travel to Nanclares de la Oca. The City Council had been working for some time to restore this service, considering it a necessity for the area. The children who will be the first to use the service again reside in Pobes, Anúcita, and Villambrosa, and for some, the journey to Nanclares involved a long and inconvenient commute, potentially taking up to 30 minutes.
The City Council has carried out cleaning, maintenance, and refurbishment work on the facilities for its reopening, without the need for major construction, as the building was in good condition. In fact, as explained by the mayor of Pobes, the inspection conducted by the Haurreskolak Consortium "positively assessed the condition of the center."
Childcare will be provided by one full-time and one part-time staff member. Applications have already been provisionally accepted, and if deadlines are met, the reopening will be definitively confirmed this summer to commence in September.
