The 'Bertakoak' initiative in Zarautz will celebrate its new edition on April 25th, providing residents with the opportunity to taste global gastronomic diversity. In this event, eleven gastronomic societies and chefs will participate, each preparing traditional dishes from their countries of origin.
The first edition of this initiative took place in 2414, with the participation of 77 people. Since then, over 1,500 Zarauztarras have taken part in the different editions of this gastronomic event, fostering cultural diversity in the town.
“"Gastronomic societies are one of the deeply rooted elements in the customs of Zarauztarras, and it is commendable that 11 societies have decided to participate in this initiative. This reveals the sensitivity that the citizens of Zarautz have towards the new Zarauztarras who come to live in the town."
Among the participating societies and countries in this edition are: Iñurritza (Palestine), Alkartasuna (Celtic Nations), Zazpi (Honduras), Batzokia (Bolivia), Arrano (Afghanistan), Itsasmendi (Guatemala), Ongi Etorri (Colombia), Galeperra (Senegal), Carballeira (Ukraine), Kurpil (Nicaragua), and F. Zurbarán (Paraguay).
Meals from the Bertakoak initiative will cost 10.50 euros and require prior registration, which can be done from April 13th to 22nd. Registrations can be completed at the Town Hall's Social Services building (Zigordia kalea, 33), by phone (943 005 127), or via email (immigrazioa@zarautz.eus).
