The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, the Zumaia City Council, local schools, and sports clubs have called on families of children aged 8 to 12 to register for the School Sports program for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the deadline closing this Sunday, June 7.

School Sports is an educational project aimed at fostering the comprehensive development of children. Beyond promoting physical activity, the program integrates values such as play, health, the Basque language, coexistence, and respect, allowing children to explore various sports modalities.
The multi-sport approach aims to avoid early specialization, offering participants the chance to try disciplines such as soccer, basketball, handball, mountaineering, swimming, judo, rowing, canoeing, pelota, and hockey. This helps children adopt healthy habits that they can maintain in the future.

"The goal is not for children to specialize early in one sport, but to give them the opportunity to discover several, so that in the future they can choose the physical activity they like best and maintain healthy habits."

Registration can be completed via the Zumaia City Council website. The program fee is 45 euros, and it is free for children who receive educational grants. This collaboration strengthens the local sports network and promotes social cohesion among the municipality's youth.
