The male rowers from Zumaia achieved second place yesterday afternoon in the second round regatta of the KAE 1 league, the XXXVII Plentzia Ikurriña, held in Plentzia (Bizkaia). They finished behind the winner, Deusto-Bilbao, and ahead of Zarautz.
The competition was close among the three boats. In the first two turns, Zumaia took the lead, with a one-second advantage over Deusto-Bilbao and a three-second lead over Zarautz. However, in the third turn, Deusto-Bilbao gained a one-second lead over Zumaia and seven seconds over Zarautz. In the final stretch, the gaps widened, and Zumaia required seven more seconds than Deusto-Bilbao to cross the finish line. Zarautz, in turn, took nine seconds longer than Zumaia. The Orio B team finished last.
In the overall KAE 1 league standings, Zarautz is in second place with 33 points, one point behind the leader Deusto-Bilbao. Zumaia is third, one point behind Zarautz, and Orio B is eleventh with 5 points.
Meanwhile, the female rowers from Zumaia began the Euskotren league this morning at the reservoir in Buitrago del Lozoy (Madrid). In the race featuring four lengths and three turns, Donostiako Arraun Lagunak was the fastest boat, finishing twelve seconds ahead of Orio, which came in second.
Eight boats compete in the women's top division league. In today's race, Zumaia ranked seventh, finishing 30 seconds behind the first-place boat and one second behind the last.
