Zumaia hosted a boxing event last Saturday, organized by Zumaia Cuban Boxing. The event featured seven bouts and included the participation of four local fighters: Zumaiarras Iñaki Lope and Iker Fernández, along with Unai Anacabe and the current Gipuzkoa and Basque Country champion, Jesús Magnevy.
Rubén Arredondo, head of Zumaia Cuban Boxing and event organizer, highlighted the strong performance of his boxers throughout the day.
Zumaiarra Iker Fernández made his debut with a victory in the 60kg junior category, thanks to «a very offensive boxing style that put his opponent, a more experienced boxer, in trouble», noted Arredondo.
Meanwhile, Unai Anacabe also secured a win in the 67kg elite category, clearly dominating all three rounds of his fight.
In the 60kg elite category, Jesús Magnevy controlled the first two rounds with his combinations. «He managed to make his opponent bleed from the nose, which required medical intervention. Ultimately, the victory was awarded to his opponent, a decision that left us with mixed feelings because we believe Jesús did not deserve that outcome, but that's boxing», explained Arredondo.
Lastly, Zumaiarra Iñaki Lope, competing in the 70kg category, put up a good fight, but it was not enough to overcome his opponent, and he lost on points.
The head of Zumaia Cuban Boxing congratulated his students on the high level demonstrated during the event. «We will continue working», concluded Arredondo.
