The Zestoa City Council, in an institutional statement released on September 14th, has condemned the serious assault during the final day of the festivities, in which an individual suffered a broken neck and head injuries. As a result of the attack, the victim was admitted to Donostia Hospital and remained under the care of the neurology department at the time the statement was published.
The council has strongly rejected the incident, deeming such attitudes as an assault against coexistence, arguing that not even the most heated debates justify violence against a person.
Regarding the overall assessment of the festivities, the Council stated that the events were well-attended and a healthy atmosphere prevailed, despite some instances of litter and minor vandalism. It also highlighted that some organizational issues from previous years were successfully avoided.
In particular, it emphasized the cleanup efforts following the popular meal “Antton Etxera” on youth day and the paella on the day of the cuadrillas, noting that thanks to the work of organizers and citizens, these communal meals were tidier and more organized than ever.
To conclude the statement, the City Council conveyed its solidarity to the victim and thanked the citizens who assisted them and called emergency services.
