Members of the Zestoa Osasuntsu group will be responsible for ascending the town hall balcony and igniting the firecracker on Saturday, August 29th, at 12:00 PM. Since 2015, this initiative has been promoting programs for the elderly, aiming to foster their active and social lives.
The group's origin traces back to the gymnastics courses organized by the Zestoa City Council. Participants expressed a desire to form a group that extended beyond gymnastics, leading to the creation of Zestoa Osasuntsu. From the outset, the project has been open to all residents, not exclusively those attending the gymnastics sessions.
Currently, the initiative is integrated within the Zestoa Care Network, involving various stakeholders: the Senior Citizens' Association, the 3Z Association, the San Juan Residence, the Gisasola Residence, and the Zestoa City Council. Annually, for nine months, they organize diverse activities such as courses, lectures, and excursions, often concluding with a shared snack.
The primary objective of the project is to promote healthy lifestyles among the elderly, provide a space for socialization, and enhance their quality of life. In addition to fostering physical activity and sports, they prioritize facilitating the integration of individuals facing vulnerability or loneliness.
Participants have emphasized that Zestoa Osasuntsu serves as an "excellent excuse to get out and about," and that these outings are a "true therapy" for them. The activities are free of charge, and consideration is given to individuals with mobility challenges.
To advance the project, several citizens contribute through volunteer work, including assisting with the preparation of snacks. Among them are Antton Etxeberria and Arantxa Rezabal, who will play a significant role in the firecracker launch: Etxeberria will ignite the firecracker, and Rezabal will deliver a few words from the balcony.
The group members express "excitement" and "gratitude" for the recognition received. They intend to continue their work with the same enthusiasm following the firecracker event and have invited residents to participate in Zestoa Osasuntsu's initiatives.
