A cyclist from Zarautz has secured a commendable fourth place in the general classification of the Vuelta a España, finishing eighth in the challenging Angliru stage and narrowly missing the podium.

This result marks a significant milestone in Basque women's cycling, being the best position achieved by a cyclist from the region in a Grand Tour since Joane Somarriba's second place in the Giro d'Italia in 2005. Last year, a fall in the final stage prevented her from finishing in the top ten, but this year she has demonstrated her high-level capabilities.
Residents of Zarautz will have the opportunity to see the cyclist in action, as the 2026 Itzulia Women race will start and finish in the town this coming Friday. This competition will bring together a high-caliber peloton on the roads of Euskadi.
On the eve of the race, this Thursday, all cyclists will participate in a presentation event on Zarautz's promenade. The cyclist will be present there, and on Friday, she can be seen again on the road.
