Although the day began with cool temperatures and overcast skies, the sun eventually broke through, brightening Zarautz's Euskal Jai Eguna. Residents adorned the streets in vibrant traditional Basque ('baserritarra') costumes, fostering a festive atmosphere.
As is tradition each year, the choir Gure Boza, along with txistularis, trikitilaris, dultzaineroak, and the tunturros from Ituren, were the first to liven up the streets. This was followed by a series of events throughout the town, including a main mass, children's games, and a performance by the group Goiztarrak at the Frontoi Txiki.
In the float competition, Jose Luis Lasa and Amaia Zuazobide showcased their creations, which they had been working on for months, at the Musika Plaza. The jury awarded the first prize to Lasa and the second to Zuazobide.
At midday, the cart competition held in Lege Zaharren Enparantza saw Jokin Aranberri's cart 'Molla' win first prize, with Iñigo Arrillaga's 'Arrillagatarrak' taking second place. The decision was made not to award a third prize.
The Lizardi aretoa hall was packed in the afternoon for Alproja's performance titled 'Asko genuen esateko' (We had much to say), which was moved indoors due to the rain forecast.
The festivities will continue into the afternoon and evening with numerous events. Most will take place in Iñurritza, but there will also be activities in the Musika Plaza, the txosna area, and Lege Zaharren Enparantza. The schedule includes parades, traditional Basque music and dance gatherings, children's games, and dances.
