The Basque Water Agency, URA, has opened a public consultation period for the updated sanitation project in the Oikia neighborhood of Zumaia to improve wastewater management in the region.

The Basque Water Agency-URA, under the Basque Government's Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability, has submitted the updated sanitation project for Oikia to public information. The project aims to collect and transport wastewater from Aizarnazabal, Oikia, and the Xey industrial estate to the Basusta WWTP in Zumaia.
The plan includes a new network of collectors, pumping stations, and force mains. A separate sewer system will be implemented to manage rainwater and wastewater independently, increasing treatment efficiency and preventing discharges into local watercourses.
This update adapts the infrastructure to new technical requirements, including redefined routes, new pumping station locations, and updated design flow rates. The budget and execution timeline have also been revised to reflect the current scope of the project.
During the public consultation period, citizens and interested parties can review the documentation and submit suggestions. Once this phase concludes, URA will proceed with the final approval and subsequent tendering of the works.
