A total of 24 people visiting the flysch cliffs of Zumaia on foot were rescued on Sunday afternoon by various emergency services, after becoming trapped on the rocks by rising tides and storms, with no injuries reported.

The rescue operation was activated shortly after 3:30 PM following an alert from some of the hikers, who were initially enjoying a sunny day on the rock formations of the flysch in the Algorri area. They subsequently became isolated by high tide and were frightened by the waves, stormy downpours, and falling debris from the cliff.
According to the Department of Security and other participating entities, the incident required the mobilization of several Ertzaintza units, including their rescue unit with a helicopter, two boats and a jet ski from the Red Cross, firefighter teams with ladder vehicles, and a patrol boat from the Civil Guard's maritime service.
The emergency services operation lasted approximately two hours until all individuals were safely evacuated. The Sea Red Cross recovered eight hikers and transported them by boat to the nearby port of Getaria, while another three were lifted by crane via helicopter and evacuated to an accessible area nearby.
The Civil Guard patrol boat rescued four people, and the remainder were brought off the cliffs by land by firefighter personnel using various equipment, who ensured their safety at different points along the coast.
