“"We haven't focused on a specific theme; the work contains stories related to Azkoitia and childhood memories, about relationships with a small town, especially set in adolescence. These are songs related to different types of relationships, about the connection I have with my family and friends."

The band Ramona’s First Evil Boyfriend, composed of members from Azkoitia and Azpeitia, has presented its third album, Eatxi, marking an evolution in their project started during lockdown and featuring Basque lyrics for the first time.
The group, formed six years ago during the confinement period, has progressed against initial expectations, releasing their latest work in March. This new album delves into childhood and adolescent relationships, primarily narrating stories connected to Azkoitia and experiences in small towns.
The transition to singing in Basque, according to the band members, occurred organically. Increased consumption of music in Basque and the automatic emergence of words in this language during composition influenced the change. Additionally, aesthetic reasons played a role, as they sought to find a different sound by using the language as an instrument.
The Eatxi album introduces a significant sound change compared to previous works. The presence of a more acoustic drum sound and more guitar layers is notable. The recording process was also different, carried out in a professional studio, unlike previous albums which were recorded at home with limited resources.
The creative process has also evolved, with songs now being created in the rehearsal space, even if ideas originate at home. They have also received external support, joining the Azkue Soinua project, which helped them establish deadlines. The album's title, Eatxi, comes from a book about the Basque language of Azkoitia, and represents the opposition between the strong meaning of the word and the tranquility of the music, illustrated with a child's drawing on the cover.
The public reception has been very positive, and the band is performing numerous concerts. They have highlighted that people enjoy their music and show interest, even in places outside their region. Each member has their special song on the album: Satisfying TV Remote Cleaning, for its creative process; Eatxi, for the creation of lyrics and melody; and Flookie, for having set the direction of the album.
