The Orio City Council has presented the program for the sixth edition of Balearen Eguna, an event that will once again bring together various cultural and popular activities in the town. Among the scheduled events, a tribute concert to Benito Lertxundi stands out, set to take place on May 17. Tickets for this event are already available at the Tourism Office.
The renowned musician from Orio ceased offering concerts in 2024, making this event a well-deserved recognition of his extensive and prolific artistic career. The tribute will feature the participation of the Et Incarnatus symphony orchestra and four children's choirs from Euskal Herria. They will perform some of Lertxundi's most well-known songs. The musical direction will be handled by Migel Zeberio, and the show will bring together a total of 150 participants: 50 musicians in the orchestra and 100 children in the choirs.
Initially, the concert was planned for May 15, a Friday, but a strike call by sound technicians for that day led to its postponement. The Orio City Council and the agents involved in organizing the event decided to support the protest, which resulted in moving the performance to Sunday, May 17, maintaining its start time at 8:00 PM.
Regarding ticket sales, a total of 1,000 tickets are expected to be made available to the public, with 700 purchasable at the Tourism Office and the remaining 300 online. Each person may purchase a maximum of four tickets, priced at 20 euros each. The organizers recommend that individuals with reduced mobility inform staff at the time of purchase to facilitate logistics.
Additionally, on May 7, at 7:00 PM, a colloquium with Benito Lertxundi will be held at Arraunetxe, moderated by Ibon Gaztañazpi. This session will provide an opportunity to review the artist's career, his work, and his deep connection with Orio. Invitations will be free and also available from this Wednesday, with a maximum of two per person. The public can actively participate both during the event and by submitting questions in advance until May 5 via the form available on the Orio City Council website.
The Balearen Eguna program will also include other activities in the preceding days. Among them, the organization of a popular dinner with songs stands out, which will be held for the first time on May 8 at 8:00 PM in the Herriko Plaza. This initiative, promoted by the Orio City Council in collaboration with a group of residents, aims to foster a participatory atmosphere around music. Tickets for this activity will go on sale this Wednesday at 5:00 PM at the Tourism Office. Two menus will be offered for adults, both priced at 18 euros, and a children's menu for 12 euros.
