The Gipuzkoa Basque Pelota Federation presented this year's Gipuzkoa Inter-town Pelota Championship yesterday in Donostia, which will begin in May, with Azpeitia competing in two modalities.

The Gipuzkoa Basque Pelota Federation (GEPF) yesterday, Tuesday, unveiled this year's Gipuzkoa Inter-town Pelota Championship in Donostia. The event was attended by several representatives from the associations that will participate in the competition, including those from Ilunpekoak of Azpeitia.
The championship will kick off in May across all its modalities. Azpeitia will compete in two disciplines this year: hand pelota and tool pelota, the latter combining leather paleta and short pala.
The hand pelota championship is expected to be the most popular again this year, with 24 towns registered. The competition will begin on the first weekend of May with the round of thirty-two. Azpeitia, however, will start competing in the round of sixteen. The winner of the tie between Amezketa and Lazkao will be Ilunpekoak's opponent; the first leg will be played away from home on the third weekend of May.
In the tool pelota championship, which will combine leather paleta and short pala, Azpeitia will begin competing on the second weekend of May, facing Olaberria. The first leg will be played away from home, and the return leg, at home.
