Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship Presented with Six Urola Kosta Municipalities

The tournament will feature 24 towns in the hand modality, with Azpeitia and Zumaia standing out in the tool competitions.

The Gipuzkoa Basque Pelota Federation yesterday presented the Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship in Donostia, with six municipalities from the Urola Kosta region set to compete in both hand and tool modalities.

While regional pelota clubs organize numerous tournaments throughout the year, the Gipuzkoa Inter-Town Pelota Championship stands out as one of the most unique. The Gipuzkoa Basque Pelota Federation (GEPF) held the championship presentation yesterday, Tuesday, in Donostia, attended by representatives from several participating clubs.
In this year's edition, 24 towns have registered for the hand modality. Additionally, ten towns will compete in the leather paleta and short pala modalities, and eighteen in the rubber paleta competition. Regarding the Urola Kosta region, six municipalities have signed up: Aia, Azkoitia, Azpeitia, Zarautz, Zestoa, and Zumaia.
In the hand modality, Aia, Azkoitia, Azpeitia, and Zestoa will participate. For the tool championship, Azpeitia and Zumaia will be the representatives. In the rubber paleta modality, all municipalities from the region, except Azpeitia, will compete.
In the tool modality, Azpeitia and Zumaia will compete in the event combining leather paleta and short pala. Both municipalities will begin the tournament in the round of sixteen, during the second weekend of May. Azpeitia will face Olaberria, playing the first leg away and the return match at home. Meanwhile, Zumaia will have Oiartzun as an opponent, playing the first leg at home and the return match away.
