In Zumaia, the association of retirees and pensioners Beheko Plaza has organized various championships as part of Senior Citizens' Week and the 'Zumaia with and for the Elderly' program. The tournaments included card games, billiards, toca, and rana.
Once the tournaments concluded, an awards ceremony was held yesterday for the winners and runners-up in each category. The final standings were as follows: In escoba, the winning pair was José Miguel Saizabal and Sabin Eizaguirre, while Tomás Uranga and José M. Uranga were the runners-up. In puntto, the winning pair was Luis Mari Alkorta and Anton Esteibar, with José Miguel Saizabal and Sabin Eizaguirre taking second place.
In the mus tournament, the winning pair consisted of Julio Pampin and Juan Mari Zubibendi, while José M. Uranga and Tomás Uranga secured the second position. In tute, Luis Mari Alkorta and Anton Esteibar claimed victory, with Venancio Jiménez and Vicente Royo as runners-up. In the billiards championship, Esteban Sánz was the winner and Mitxel Aizpurua took second place. In the rana game, Mari Paz Ansorena was crowned champion, followed by Salvadora Belarbide. Finally, in toca, Sabino Eizaguirre achieved first place, and Tomás Uranga finished second.
The winners of each tournament received a gift basket containing txakoli and tuna, while the runners-up were presented with a selection of red wine and cheese. Additionally, after the awards ceremony, the organization held a raffle for two ham hampers among all participants. On this occasion, Venancio Jiménez and Mari Paz Ansorena were the lucky recipients.
The day concluded with a snack offered at the Senior Citizens' Center Bar for all the elderly attendees.
