The Deusto rowing team emerged victorious this Saturday at the Ikurriña race in Plentzia, marking their second win of the season and securing the top spot in the ARC-1 standings. The boat, helmed by Iker Gimeno, finished six seconds and 82 hundredths ahead of second-placed Zumaia, and nearly 16 seconds ahead of Zarautz, which came in third.
The Telmo Deun set the best times through the first two turns, but in the third, the advantage shifted to the Bilbao crew, who extended their lead during the final stretch.
Meanwhile, Kaiku finally showed the level expected of them, finishing in fourth place. The Bizkaia-based team won the first heat ahead of Hibaika – who finished tenth overall – Arkote, and Orio B, who ended up last for the first time.
“"The Orio boat could not use the short oar for at least two turns, forcing them to take wide turns."
In the overall standings, Deusto leads with 34 points and two victories, followed by Zarautz with 33 points and one win, and Zumaia with 32 points.
The ARC-1 league will resume next Saturday in Donibane Lohizune. Additionally, the Euskotren and Eusko Label leagues commence this Sunday with a time trial in the Riosequillo reservoir, located in Buitrago de Lozoya (Madrid).
