The Azpeitia City Council has granted permission to commence demolition work on the buildings of the former Corrugados Azpeitia factory in the Amue area, with the goal of revitalizing the urban center.

The Azpeitia City Council has authorized the start of demolition work at the former Corrugados Azpeitia plant, located in the Amue area. The buildings of this company, which closed several years ago, are situated in this zone, and the council has announced that the company itself has confirmed that demolition will begin "soon".
The Amue area covers nine hectares in the heart of the town. Currently, seven of these hectares are occupied by outdated industrial facilities, but according to the council, the area will soon have "a completely different appearance." Mayor Nagore Alkorta stated: "We are in contact with the company, and they have confirmed that they will soon begin tearing down the buildings".

"This is very gratifying news for the town, because we are getting closer to revitalizing an area that has been stagnant for many years. The transformation of Amue will have a direct impact on the center of Azpeitia, as it will create more useful and pleasant spaces for citizens."

It is the responsibility of the land owner to carry out the demolition work, a process that will involve several phases: emptying the buildings internally, demolishing them, and decontaminating the land. Once this process is complete, the area will be ready for other uses. The council plans to provide more details on the timelines in a few weeks.
The matter was discussed yesterday at the Azpeitia City Council's Governing Board, where the demolition permit was unanimously approved. The Azpeitia City Council definitively approved the special plan for the Amue area in 2024. According to this plan, the future development of this space includes the construction of housing and community facilities for public use.
