The Orio estuary witnessed the victory of the Badok 13 trainera, and the sporting event served to convey a message in favor of the LGTBIQ+ collective.
The XI. Jakes Landa and III. Edu Mugarza Memorial regatta took place this Saturday on the Orio estuary, as part of the veteran rowers' league. A total of 25 crews gathered, twelve from the first division, eleven from the second category, and two invited boats, Cambrils and Ibaialde, from Iparralde.
Badok 13 Orio emerged victorious with a time of 13:25.07. This result allows the Orio club to consolidate its leading position in the overall season standings. Mundaka secured second place (13:51.06), and Fortuna took third (14:02.0).
Beyond the results, the day was marked by an official ceremony held before the navigation tests began, coinciding with the International Day for Sexual Liberation and LGTBIQ+ Pride. The organizing entity used the sporting event to formally urge the league's other clubs and associations to adopt structural measures in favor of equality.
Specifically, the creation and implementation of specific internal protocols within clubs were requested to actively prevent and combat situations of harassment or discrimination. Spokespersons for the initiative highlighted the need to "provide sports structures with institutional tools that effectively guarantee that the field of rowing is a safe, diverse, and inclusive space for all its participants".
