Azpeitia City Council has organized several events for the upcoming days as part of European Mobility Week, aimed at promoting pedestrian and cycling transit. Additionally, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has also prepared activities for Thursday.
'Metrominuto' panels have been installed in various areas of the town. These panels serve as maps to promote pedestrian mobility, indicating the distances and approximate times for walking routes between key points. Environmental councilors, Joanes Amenabar and Mikel Odriozola, have highlighted that many journeys within the town can be made on foot, despite the common habit of using cars. Through these panels, the aim is to provide practical information to residents, encouraging them to make 'more sustainable choices' in their daily mobility and reduce car usage.
The panels are located in four areas: the Garmendia sports complex, in front of the swimming pool, next to the Betharram exhibition hall (Jose Artetxe street), and next to the Local Police building (Plaza Txikia).
Furthermore, the council has organized two additional activities to promote safe cycling, scheduled for Sunday between 17:30 and 19:30. Firstly, a gymkhana for young people aged 6 to 14 will take place in Bustinzuriko Errebala, allowing participants to practice their skills and focus on safety. Secondly, at Olazko Ama Square, a basic bicycle repair workshop will be offered, enabling residents to fix common bicycle issues. Both activities will be led by the Arauntza Riders group.
