Azpeitia is vying to become the European Capital of Inclusion and Diversity, with the awards ceremony taking place today from 17:00 in Brussels, attended by a delegation from the municipality.

The municipality will compete in the category for towns with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants, where gold, silver, and bronze prizes will be awarded among five candidacies. Alongside Azpeitia, the Gipuzkoan towns of Errenteria and Orio have also been nominated, as well as San Xoan de Río (Galicia) and Mariscovetere (Italy).
Azpeitia's candidacy has been recognized, among other aspects, for prioritizing the needs of the LGTBIQ+ community and for genuinely and effectively integrating diversity and inclusion into its municipal policies. Over the past two years, the municipality has developed a process from diagnosis to the implementation of concrete actions, in collaboration with various stakeholders, a journey that has been acknowledged by Brussels.
Although the results are imminent, it is still possible to vote for the candidacies. The ceremony can be followed live online.
