The Azkoitia Town Council has been asked to re-evaluate the situation and consider reinstalling the waste bins previously located around the town square and on Martin Deuna street, to address the needs of local residents.

Several months ago, the underground waste bins in Azkoitia's town square were closed. Prior to this, the bins located on Martin Deuna street were also removed following a fire, and have not been replaced since.
No alternative has been offered to residents who previously disposed of their waste in these two areas. According to the Town Council, they are expected to use the bins at Elkargune or those in front of the health center. However, this situation has generated numerous complaints among residents living near the square.

Elderly individuals, among others, have stated that the Elkargune bins are not suitable due to accessibility issues. The need to adapt them to pavement level has also been raised, even in council committees.

Furthermore, the bins on Martin Deuna street were removed due to concerns about their safety after the fire. On that day, a tree next to the bins caught fire, and the wooden bay window of an adjacent house was also at risk. Nevertheless, the situation has significantly improved, as the tree that was there previously could no longer direct fire towards that bay window; this risk has been notably reduced.
For all these reasons, the Azkoitia Town Council is being urged to re-examine the situation and evaluate the option of reinstating the waste bins that were formerly located around the town square or on Martin Deuna street, in order to meet the needs of the residents.
