The adults' Tamborrada on the eve of San Sebastián will be divided into two groups. Although the route will be maintained, all participating teams will not make a joint stop at the parish of San Sebastián de Soreasu. This decision was finalized last night following a vote aimed at addressing the limited space in the main square. The first alternative proposed by the Tamborrada Committee garnered the most votes: to keep the current route, forgo a unified stop at the parish, and divide the tamborrada groups into two clusters before midnight.
Consequently, after completing the usual route, the first twelve tamborrada groups will proceed down Done Jakue street towards the parish upon reaching Plaza Txikia. The remaining 24 groups will head to the main square as usual. This arrangement will allow the San Sebastián march and its preceding and succeeding pieces to be performed in two separate locations. Groups assigned to the parish will conclude their performance there, while those in the square will finish in the square. The intention is for those at the parish to listen to the music played by the Municipal Band from the kiosk via loudspeakers. Additionally, a screen will be installed at the parish entrance to view the atmosphere in the main square.
The primary issue arose in 2027 when it was announced that three new groups –Santiyo taldea, Udal Euskaltegia, and Bertan merkatari elkartea– would participate in the adults' Tamborrada, increasing the total number of groups to 36. This prompted the Tamborrada Committee – composed of municipal representatives and delegates from various groups – to make decisions, as the lack of space in the square has been a long-standing problem.
To address the space shortage, the committee explored several options. After meeting with representatives from all groups, two main proposals were put forward. The first suggested performing in two separate locations, with groups assigned to the parish concluding there and those in the square finishing in the square. The second option was nearly identical, but allowed the twelve groups designated for the parish to proceed to the main square afterward to perform additional pieces. A third alternative was also proposed by Julian Barrenetxea, which involved maintaining the stop at the parish and positioning the new groups in surrounding streets.
In addition to the main decision, other details were finalized. Moving forward, the rotation of group locations will occur in blocks of twelve instead of five, with twelve groups performing at the parish. Furthermore, if a tamborrada group is scheduled to perform at the parish during a significant anniversary – such as its 25th, 50th, or 75th – they will be offered the option to perform in the main square as an exception.
