The Provincial Council of Bizkaia auctioned 35 Pyrenean and Pottoka breed animals at the Gorliz Farm, generating a total of 89,950 euros.

A total of 35 animals from the Pyrenean and Pottoka breeds were sold at the auction held at the Gorliz Foral Farm, organized by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia. The event raised 89,950 euros, with 19 Pyrenean cows, 12 Pottoka mares, and four foals finding new owners.
The livestock was purchased by farmers from various locations, including Lezama, Plentzia, and Zamudio. The Pyrenean cow 'Goma' fetched the highest price at 6,150 euros, while 'Ziortza' was sold for 5,450 euros to a farmer from Iurreta, who described the purchase as a 'whim'.
The valuation of the animals goes beyond physical appearance, incorporating genetic indices related to calving ease, maternal ability, and milk production. The Gorliz Farm's mission is to enhance these native breeds genetically and ensure their future, particularly for the Pottoka, which is classified as an endangered breed.

"Detrás de cada animal que vemos hoy aquí hay años de trabajo, dedicación y apuesta por nuestra ganadería."
