The Otala-Zelai cross-country race in Aretxabaleta on Saturday gathered several well-known athletes and local runners to compete on a challenging and beautiful course.

Athletes such as Ritxar Fernandez, Nere Arregi, and Unai Barrena, along with mountain runner Iñigo Alzola and triathlete Eneritz Urrutia, participated in today's Otala-Zelai cross-country race. They gathered in Aretxabaleta with many other local athletes, aiming to start the morning with energy.
Few circuits will be more beautiful than this race in Aretxabaleta, but caution is advised for the final kilometer. After looping around the Urkulu reservoir and climbing back to the Otala meadow proves to be tough, and the spectators gathered in the final 200 meters were witnesses to this.

"I often come here to train because it's paradise, but this is the first time I've won the race. It's as hard as it is beautiful, because the last kilometer is very tough. We are used to running here, we accept this beauty, but we don't quite know what we have, it's beautiful. I know Aitor [Etxeberria], he's a very tough rival, I know he's very fast in the final stages of the race and I didn't want to wait until the last meters, I hardened the race earlier and fortunately I arrived first."

Unai Barrena (0:25:52) secured the victory in the men's event by pushing the pace and reaching the finish line first.
In the women's category, Nere Arregi was the fastest (0:33:00). "I started with Eneritz [Urrutia], and the way she started, she went off like a bull and I tried to keep up with her rhythm. Today was about suffering, this is a tough cross-country race, especially when we take that path from Urkulu up to the farmhouse... I'm enjoying athletics again, but in moderation, without going crazy. The plan is to continue like this," stated the runner from Zigarrola.
In mixed pairs, Idoia Nogales and Alberto Arberas were the quickest. "Although I'm from Deba, I know this race well, I've done it four times. We had suitable weather for the race. It's a race that starts very fast downhill and then you have to pace yourself. But I really like these kinds of cross-country races and we did well," said Nogales.
