The Mayor of San Sebastian, Jon Insausti, described the past weekend and Monday as “round days” for the city, emphasizing the “exemplary nature” of the football team's fans. According to the mayor, “it was a day we will hardly forget,” praising the success of the celebrations and public participation.
In total, about 145,000 people gathered over the two days: 45,000 on Saturday and 100,000 on Monday. Of the latter, 64,000 fans congregated along the route between Anoeta and Alderdi Eder to greet the players. The mayor noted that the celebrations demonstrated “authenticity,” being “an intergenerational celebration.” Additionally, 527 children participated in the welcome drum parade.
“"It has been a safe event and everything has turned out better than expected."
Regarding security, the Mayor of San Sebastian stressed that “it has been a safe event and everything has turned out better than expected.” The city council activated a robust security plan with the collaboration of the Municipal Police, the Ertzaintza, Civil Protection, firefighters, and other entities. Ambulances, helicopters, and drones were also used in the streets to ensure the safety of all activities.
For the celebrations, a 6.8-kilometer route was fenced off between Anoeta and Alderdi Eder, and three giant screens were installed for fans to enjoy the moment: two in Alderdi Eder and one on Miramar street, in front of the Basque Government headquarters.
