In Azpeitia, organic and general waste containers will be opened using a card or a mobile application henceforth, implementing a new control system.

In Azpeitia, organic and general waste containers will operate with access control from now on. Residents have already received the new card sent by the town council, which will be used to open the containers. Starting next Wednesday, containers can be opened with this card or with the mobile application called 'Ireki'.
The council has announced that the previously used card will also remain valid. Those who wish to use the application must download it by scanning the QR code provided in the letter received at home. Once the application is installed, the card and the application must be linked, using the QR code on the back of the new card for this purpose.
Regarding the overall system, the council has emphasized that it will function as before. The containers will be available 24 hours a day, and residents must use the containers corresponding to their street or neighborhood.
The aim of the access control is to reverse the waste separation rate, which has "decreased" in recent years. The council has reiterated that it is "everyone's responsibility" to manage waste responsibly and sustainably, and has requested citizens' help and commitment in this endeavor.
