Socialist councilor Joxe Mari Villanueva has denounced that several areas in Tolosa's Old Town, such as Armeria plaza and Gorriti plaza, are in a "worrying state" and "abandoned." He stated that projects from the previous legislature have not progressed and that no steps have been taken to create the riverside promenade, leading residents to lose confidence.
According to Villanueva, the deterioration of the Old Town is a "palpable reality," and he criticized that, despite EH Bildu having been in municipal government for three years, the situation persists. Furthermore, he indicated that the area formed by Soldadu, Beotibar, and Antonio Lekuona streets also needs to be "transformed," as cars continue to occupy a space that should be pedestrian, and the "sense of abandonment is total."
The councilor emphasized that the Old Town "deserves more maintenance, planning, and action," something that has been lacking this legislative period. "Unfortunately, this reality of paralysis is also observed in other areas of the town," he added.
He highlighted the "lack of momentum" in other projects, such as the Arkaute house, which instead of being the Basque Mountaineering Museum is closed and abandoned; Geltoki plaza, which remains abandoned and without a project; and Zumarditxikia, which is deteriorated and abandoned.
As an example, he cited the recent removal of the crane by developer Muno from the plot in the San Cosme y San Damian area. He explained that the decision was made not to build 50 apartments, which had had a building license for over three years, due to obstacles imposed by the municipal administration.
The PSE-EE is "concerned" about the "situation the town is experiencing and EH Bildu's lack of initiative," and therefore, has called for "more effective management" to "turn projects into reality."
