The Municipal Fronton in Mungia will be packed this Thursday for the final of the Jai Alai League Master Series, starting at 7:00 PM. The event has been a resounding success, with three functions and three successful rounds, bringing professional cesta punta back to the town after a 17-year hiatus.
Ekaitz Mendizabal Goixerri and Unai Lekerika will face Aritz Erkiaga and Gorka Sorozabal, who are considered the favorites due to their track record. However, Goixerri and Lekerika, with nothing to lose, are expected to play with fierce determination.
In the semifinal, Goixerri impressed as he and Lekerika defeated Xabier Barandika, making his return after nearly five months due to injury, and Jon Zabala with scores of 9-15 and 14-15. The Mungia court is expected to be advantageous for Lekerika in the backcourt.
In the women's category, the Alava forward Maite Ortiz de Mendibil will aim for her first title of the season alongside the powerful Maia Goikoetxea, who could set the pace on the Mungia court. They will compete against Elaia Gogenola and Oaia Otaño.
