Mungia has solidified its labor stability with an unemployment rate of approximately 7.9% last February. This figure reflects a decrease compared to the previous year, when the unemployment index was 8.40%, and keeps the municipality below the average for Euskadi and Bizkaia.
Specifically, 726 unemployed individuals were registered in Mungia, representing a year-on-year decrease of 6.63% and also improving pre-pandemic levels, when 815 people were unemployed. The unemployment profile shows a higher incidence among older individuals; 45% of the total are over 50 years old, with particular significance for those over 59, totaling 129 people.
By sectors, unemployment is mainly concentrated in the services sector, which accounts for 73.3% of unemployed people, followed by industry (12.1%) and construction (3.2%). Women continue to represent a higher percentage of unemployment, with 446 women (61%) compared to 280 men. Regarding origin, 20% of unemployed people are foreign-born, while the rest are from the national population. Additionally, 325 people (44.8%) are in long-term unemployment.
In terms of education, individuals with compulsory education predominate (45.5%), followed by those with vocational training (29.8%) and university studies (14.9%). For its part, the City Council, through Mungialdeko Behargintza, continues to promote active policies to improve employability and foster local economic development.
Last year, Mungialdeko Behargintza assisted 1,021 people, 90% of whom belonged to groups with integration difficulties. The agency managed 140 job offers, which generated 160 jobs, and achieved 214 job placements, 52 of which were permanent contracts (24.3%). Furthermore, the regional employment plan allowed for the hiring of 21 people and the creation of 42 new businesses that generated 58 jobs.
