The Arabako Mendiak Aske platform has called a mountain march for April 19, starting from Egileta, to halt the Azazeta Wind Farm project and advocate for natural environment protection.

The Arabako Mendiak Aske platform has organized a mountain march for April 19, starting from the town of Egileta, to protest against the Azazeta Wind Farm project. With this initiative, the group aims to highlight the ecological value of the Azazeta natural area and continue its fight to stop the wind farm's construction.
According to the platform, the Azazeta environment is unsuitable for industrial electricity generation facilities, and the project harms biodiversity and ecosocial justice. They have denounced that the positive Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) issued by the Basque Government is “absurd” and disregards the “Precautionary Principle”.

"Care for the earth to sow the future. Because those of us who have grown up and socialized in contact with nature have this principle deeply ingrained, which is universal in all peoples who directly or indirectly sustain and depend on that relationship."

Arabako Mendiak Aske has pointed out that Ramiro González, General Deputy of Álava, concealed reports from the Provincial Council that would have halted the plant. Furthermore, the Basque Government has shown significant contradictions regarding similar projects, accepting impacts in some cases and rejecting them in others, demonstrating a discretionary application of the precautionary principle.
The collective has reminded that the Azazeta project affects territories where griffon vultures and Egyptian vultures nest, and it is located in an important regional ecological corridor. Although reports from the Provincial Council of Álava warned about the impact on connectivity, the Basque Government's environmental resolution prioritized the benefit of energy generation.
The march will begin on Friday, April 19, at 10:30 AM from Egileta. Arabako Mendiak Aske has taken the process to court with the aim of achieving the definitive annulment of the project.
