The Lea Ibarra Commonwealth has invested one million euros in restoring the Lea natural promenade, a 23-kilometer trail connecting Munitibar to Lekeitio, with the goal of extending coastal tourism to the inland regions.

The Lea Ibarra Commonwealth, comprising the municipalities of Amoroto, Aulesti, Mendexa, Gizamuruaga, and Munitibar, has allocated one million euros, funded by Next Generation funds and the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR), to refurbish one of its main natural attractions: the Lea promenade.
This historic trail, stretching approximately 23 kilometers parallel to the river from its source on Mount Oiz in Munitibar to its mouth in Lekeitio, aims to decentralize the tourist focus concentrated on the coast, thereby benefiting the inland areas as well.

"This is a commitment to balanced development that strengthens the link between nature, heritage, and the community."

In addition to restoring all signage and information panels, the works have included renovating the footbridges to ensure the safety of hikers on this low-difficulty route. The project also involved renaming the route to Lea Naturbidea and extending it to the Lekeitio tourist office.
Its promoters have launched a new digital infrastructure to provide practical information on stages, points of interest, and the offerings of the municipalities, and active profiles have been created on social media. At the start of the trail in Munitibar, public restrooms and leisure areas have also been set up.
