The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on Sunday, March 29th. The victim, a 28-year-old Spanish man, was walking through a street in Las Arenas when a young man approached him asking for tobacco. When refused, the assailant demanded money, a mobile phone, a watch, and his wallet.
A struggle ensued between the two. The alleged perpetrator brandished a knife, and with the appearance of two other individuals presumably linked to him, the victim handed over the money in his wallet and a chain he was wearing around his neck.
After obtaining the loot, the perpetrator and his companions fled. The victim sustained hand injuries from falling during the struggle, requiring medical attention.
An investigation by the Getxo Ertzain-etxea, following the report, led to the identification of the alleged perpetrator, who is of Latin American origin. The young man was summoned to the police station this Thursday and arrested for robbery with intimidation.
