This minor work aims to connect the recently built wooden walkway and the trails currently being created by URA, so that both paths are joined by a section of adequate granular surface. This comprehensive action includes the creation of a new urban wetland over an area of 10,000 square meters (near the municipal sports center and Ugeraga football field) to improve the ecological value between the Gobela and Lemotza rivers. The project includes a permanent water body of over 3,000 square meters, designed with various depths and shelters for waterfowl, amphibians, and insects.
The project seeks to increase local biodiversity by restoring native Atlantic forest vegetation and removing invasive species. Furthermore, the creation of new pedestrian paths aims to integrate this natural space into Sopela's urban fabric, offering citizens accessible surroundings to enjoy nature.
“"This restoration brings great ecological and environmental value to our municipality, represents a step forward in Sopela's Green Ring, and has strong support."
This measure is part of the actions outlined in the government team's legislative plan in the area of Environment and Ecological Transition.
