The incident occurred around 12:00 PM on Tuesday, when Ertzaintza officers patrolling the Deusto neighborhood of Bilbao observed two men, known for their extensive police records, quickly exiting a building entrance. When ordered to stop, they ignored the command and attempted to flee, though they were eventually intercepted.
According to the Department of Security, one of the detainees, aged 64, struggled with the officers to resist arrest, forcing them to immobilize him. A preventive search was then conducted, revealing a set of lock-picking tools, aluminum sheets, and a plastic device used for the 'slip method' of door opening among their possessions.
“"Sometimes, in a hurry, citizens do not ensure that all doors and windows are properly locked. This is very important, as it prevents burglars from entering using what is known as the 'slip method,' which involves inserting a plastic piece between the door frame and the latch."
Additionally, the individuals were carrying jewelry, including gold chains, brooches, earrings, and pendants, as well as old peseta coins and banknotes. Both individuals, of Maghrebi origin, were arrested for aggravated robbery and will be brought before a judge once police proceedings are concluded. The 64-year-old detainee is also charged with resisting authority. The Ertzaintza continues its investigation to determine the origin of the seized money and jewelry.
