Sopela's local market, known as Gure Lurreko, has solidified its position after relocating to the heart of the municipality, achieving significant success in its first year. This initiative, promoted by the Local Development Area of the City Council in collaboration with the regional agency Jata Ondo and with the support of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, moved from its previous location in Urgitxieta square, in Larrabasterra, at the end of March to settle in front of the Town Hall.
This relocation, effective since last March 28, has been to a «more visible and frequented» space, maintaining its weekly frequency and usual schedule, from 10:00 to 14:00 hours. A councilor from the City Council stated that «the relocation is yielding good results and strengthens the continuity of the project». Regular customers have also noticed a positive change, indicating that more people pass by and even those who did not know about the market stop and make purchases.

This initiative, launched in the spring of 2025, has allowed residents to access local agri-food products during this time. Vegetables, fruits, bread, cured meats, cheeses, and honey are part of an offering that varies according to the season. Between five and seven participants usually set up their stalls, directly connecting producers from farmhouses in the Uribe region and other parts of Bizkaia with consumers.
The proposal aimed to boost the local economy and revitalize areas of the municipality. Although the impact in Larrabasterra was limited, it set a precedent among residents. Additionally, complementary initiatives driven by the associative fabric emerged, offering various parallel activities throughout the year, from musical performances to tastings or cultural events.

"The direct relationship is the main value. Here we know each other, and a large supermarket cannot offer that. It is a bond that generates trust. That is why we talk about a market with a name and surname. It is not just about buying, but about understanding what is behind each product."
