The Ertzaintza arrested two men, aged 64 and 59 and of Maghrebi origin, on Wednesday for attempted robbery. The individuals attempted to gain access to a residence in Portugalete while its owner was still inside.
A patrol assigned to the Muskiz Ertzain-etxea, conducting public safety duties, was alerted around 11:30 AM to proceed to the San Roque neighborhood due to an attempted robbery in an occupied dwelling. According to the description provided of the alleged perpetrators, they were two middle-aged men with short hair and dark complexions.
After entering the building's common area, officers found two men on the third floor attempting to access the elevator. The ertzainas confirmed that the description matched the two suspects present, leading to their identification.
The homeowner confirmed to the Ertzaintza that one of the identified men was the one who had attempted to enter her home, having seen him through the peephole. The woman, 27 years old and a Spanish national, was in her hallway when she heard noises at the door and observed a plastic card being continuously inserted up and down near the lock in an attempt to open it.
Upon searching them, officers found two plastic cards, one of them folded, which they allegedly used to attempt to access the home using the 'slip' method.
Consequently, officers proceeded to arrest the two men for attempted robbery of an occupied home. Both detainees, who have prior criminal records, were taken to police facilities and will be brought before a judge after the relevant proceedings are completed.
