The workshops on affective-sexual health conducted by Osakidetza in educational centers throughout Euskadi have become a key resource for youth sexual health. Aimed at adolescents and young people between the ages of 10 and 16, multidisciplinary teams of professionals address their concerns.
During the past 2025-2026 academic year, Osakidetza carried out over 100 actions related to affective-sexual health, with the participation of 4,000 adolescents from 85 educational centers. The primary objective of these workshops is to promote healthy relationships and protect the sexual health of young people.
Each workshop delivered in schools consists of an average of three sessions, each lasting two hours. All formative actions in affective-sexual matters are delivered by Osakidetza healthcare personnel, organized into multidisciplinary teams, predominantly comprising midwives, medical, and nursing staff.
The Department of Health announced these figures on the occasion of the World Sexual Health Day, celebrated annually on September 4th. This day aims to raise awareness about the physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being related to sexuality, promoting sexual rights and the free exercise of a safe and pleasurable sexual life.
The Department of Health and the Department of Education, in collaboration with Osakidetza, have published "A sexual health guide to know everything". This guide is designed to assist in the sexual education of students in Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate, and Vocational Training.
The guide is part of the Sexual Health Program for Adolescents and Young People for sexual education in Euskadi and includes two pedagogical resources: a guide for students and another for teachers. It covers topics such as sexual health, sexual rights, pleasures, desires, boundaries, consent, healthy sexual relationships, contraception, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), online sex, and pornography.
Osakidetza's initiatives directly align with the Basque Health Pact's central areas of prevention and health promotion, particularly concerning youth sexual health. Sexual education is positioned as a key preventive tool to reduce the epidemiological impact of STIs.
