Muskiz has successfully recovered over 140,000 square meters of Mount Mello, which was devastated by a major fire in 2019, thanks to the participation of more than 700 local schoolchildren.

This year's reforestation efforts have concluded, highlighting the community's involvement in this initiative organized by the Muskiz City Council and the El Cerro association. After five years of work, more than 14 hectares have been restored, although some areas still require further reforestation.

"This year, 650 native trees have been planted, bringing the total recovered area over these years to more than 140,000 square meters (fourteen hectares)."

These efforts help to heal the wound left by the fire that erupted on March 3, 2019, which scorched over a hundred hectares of mountain. The incident left terrifying images of night skies stained orange by flames and columns of fire threatening the communities of Pobeña, La Cadena, and Carrascal. Twenty vehicles, forty firefighters, and over eighty personnel were needed to extinguish the blaze, whose memory still weighs heavily on the town.
